These applets are useful for S1/S2 and SG Physics courses.

I highly recommend the Flash Learning Physics animations and the virtual physics animations. Their FunPhysics is also good for Int 1.

This is a series of lessons developed by myself and a P6/7 teacher to deliver the Living and Growing component of Health Education. This was the first foray into Co-operative Learning for both of us-we had done our training and couldn’t wait to try the ideas out! We chose this particular curricular area because we felt that pupils would benefit from the security and support of a “Home Group” in tackling this topic. Our first planning meeting lasted well over an hour, but as we became more familiar with the techniques we got a little faster and the quality of the pupils’ learning definitely justified the time spent.living-growing.doc

This is a really useful link if you want to make your own graph paper. The free graph printer paper program (last link on web page and written by Phillipe Marquis is particularly useful if you want to insert graph paper into exam / homework questions as you can customise the size of grids and the graphic to be inserted. http://www.mathematicshelpcentral.com/graph_paper.htm

I use ActiveStudio 2 and would like to create some activities using a drag and drop function. Ideally labels will fly back to their original position if they are dragged to the wrong label. There are preloaded activities with this capability but the activity wizard doesn’t allow for this. Any suggestions?

I’ve attached a file (Need for Energy Dominoes) with a couple of pages that could be used for S Grade “The Need for Energy”. They can be copied on to card and used as dominoes for revision. The kids seem to like them. Not entirely my own idea, the original came from the squashed frogs (www.squashedfrogs.co.uk) website where they had the same thing for photosynthesis.

I haven’t been on the Co-operative Learning course yet (May) but I’m trying a few things to get groups working together. One of them is an S3 biology class working to produce a working model of mitosis. (Not an original idea of my own but “pinched” from Hamish Keddie at Montrose).
Does anyone have any suggestions for making sure that each member of the group can explain the model/topic at the end.
Here is my lessson plan for making Mitosis topic more interactive (S Grade Mitosis Challenge)

I have just completed the 3 day training on co-operative learning and wondered if anyone would be interested in providing me with a further CPD opportunity to observe their good practice in this area?
